I think we all know that.

If there's anyone on this board that can shed some light on why you would NOT come back, boost your draft stock, maybe win a few more games, (not to mention whatever academic accomplishments you can tie up), boost your size and strength, without some assurance that you're actually going to be drafted, that'd be great.

Could be a few reasons.   They may be ready to move on with their lives. By declaring draft eligible they can move to the next stage without putting off another year.

I wonder of they need to "Declare" for the draft to free up a scholarship since unlike most years this is automatic when they are out of eligibility.   Might explain why more are declaring themselves draft eligible that probably aren't going to be drafted.

Age matters.   If these guys spend another year to boost size and strength, they are also adding a year of wear and tear and age to it, which negatively affects draft status.

Winning a few more games probably doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things, it would be far more noble and teammateish to move on and allow a younger player to come in and help the program grow/develop.  Now if they thought we were legit Conference Championship ready that could change.

It's always a gamble for players like this .... you're always one play away, game/practice, from a career ending injury, maybe he's already set to graduate, maybe his personal life is dictating it's time to join the real world one way or the other, winning a few more games doesn't really matter in the big picture .... not knowing his situation it's kind of hard to judge.

Edit. Just saw Chapel's more detailed response along these lines

@chapelbullpost is 100% correct in answering this.

Goodluck Hampton.

Between graduation, transferring out and leaving early we are losing a huge amount of players.

Normally id be worried but not with this team, only problem is we will be a very young team next year.

Best of luck to Mr. Hampton.  Very classy tweet.

As far as losing a huge amount of players goes, I'd normally be worried, but since we could not beat a single FBS team in 2020, I don't think we can really get worse.  Can we?

You can get a CAREER ENDING INJURY playing for "free" and never make it to the NFL. I know dudes from small colleges and DIDN'T even start, but got tryouts for NFL teams. One of them made it and lasted 2 years in the league. Buddy went to FAMU.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
