For the commish consideration

I love this format, this is the only "dynasty" league format I am in and I probably spend more time evaluating players in this league than in the regular leagues.

With that being said, i would like the league to consider expanding the number of players allowed as keepers. Ideally, I would like to see the whole team be allowed to be kept. However, that may be too much of a bite to chew right away. Perhaps we increase the keeper amount to 8 or 10 to start with. I am not sure if it works this way in Yahoo but there must be a way to allow a manager to keep one player, 5 players or 8 players, whatever the manager would choose. So perhaps I want to keep 2 players then i would lose the two subsequent draft picks, perhaps I want to keep 8 players, i would lose the 8 subsequent draft picks. These are just suggestions, as I would rather continue on as is if any changes will be detrimental.

I would personally like to see a decrease to 2 or 3. I’ve lost all interest in the draft when most of my starting lineup is picked. If that becomes most of my team idk if I’d ever do a live draft again. Again just a personal preference but I would rather the keepers be more like “Franchise players” than the whole starting roster.

Have to agree with Adam. 5 is plenty - anything more renders the draft meaningless. Owners who drafted poorly or who got unlucky won't have an opportunity to quickly improve their roster through the draft.

Thanks for the suggestion... This is one of those things where we would probably have a number of different recommendations. Of course, there is no requirement to keep 5, if one wishes to jump into the draft with all picks. Also, I believe some keeper leagues do not allow for keeping a player more than five seasons. I like that , but it could be an administrative nightmare!

But I am open to changes. If there are things we would like to agree on for next season, prior to this one ending, I would like to discuss on the message board where we can poll team owners. I don't want to wait too long, and then our prospects for this season/next season influence thinking rather than what would make it a better league.

There are smaller changes as well that are possible like adding an IR spot. that seems cool. I had that in a league somewhere before. Also, I read that many keeper leagues don't snake draft like we do. So that is an option, but not one that we can wait until end of season to discuss.

Any additional thoughts? I am moving this discussion here:

For me, the draft is only one small aspect of the whole experience, yeah its fun, but it doesn't begin to match up to the rest of the season. I am in a hockey league where you keep everyone but 1 player. You'd be surprised how important your long term vision beyond the individual season becomes when you are selecting a single pick. College football increases in importance when you are seeking your franchise player. The keep or draft decision is another strategy, do i give up this stud running back now before he declines to get that stud running back coming out of college, etc. Anything that increases the long term strategy value I would be for. JMO.

I didn't realize this was an option at this time either. This makes the argument against keeping an entire roster moot. If there are no requirements to keeping anyone than one should be able to keep the entire roster if desired. Perhaps one manager is smart enough and savvy enough to create a dynasty that keeps the rest of the league scrambling to make up the difference, is that bad? I say no, it forces everyone to work harder and smarter, in fact its is even more NFL like.

Not that I’m against keeping only 5. But your idea of building a dynasty is intriguing. What if the league winner has to keep their entire roster, sure they keep a championship roster but they also miss out on replacing their filler players as well. If I would have had to keep my entire roster from last year I’d have had to keep guys like Boston Scott and Dion Lewis and other people who were only relevant due to injuries to handcuffs. I also would have missed out on promising rookies like CeeDee Lamb, Ruggs and Antonio Gibson, it’s kind of a gift and a curse thing.

Edit: Is Mike Boone even in the league still? Dude started for me in the championship last year...

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
