I would assume that there are bus drivers and equipment managers who are also in the peripheral pipeline just waiting to suit up. If a kid is a top 10 Long snapper, I can assure you they are being actively recruited. Are they being recruited specifically for that position? That depends on the programs specific recruiting/depth needs. I know there are a few families that built their names on producing long snappers. I would think that, generally speaking, a guy that is pretty much only a long snapper would be a candidate for preferred walk on. Then they could also be like 9th LB or something. Occasionally that guy could end up playing another position. Certainly at the NFL level it has become a specialist position like kicker. Most long snappers at that level only snap.
