You see government as the solution to the worlds problems but I kindly ask for one thing they are doing better than any private attempt at taking over their failings. Just throw money at it has never been the solution because a fool and his money are soon parted and anyone wise enough to be making decisions isn’t doing so in the public sector.

Police, Army?  Working for the State of NJ Treasury, we turned part of our collections over to a private company.  Forget exactly how many years it took before they were fired for doing all kinds of illegal things.  Private companies, for the most part, do not have the good of the common man as a priority.  Dividends are the priority.

If you were a private company exactly how many times over would you produce bombs capable of blowing up the entire world? Are we intending on blowing up the entire universe? One of the things we do the absolute worst is fund defense. The military buys things because that’s the company their colleague works at and where they will be working in the future and congress funds it because it’s a campaigning tool and they will just print more money. The arms race ended decades ago, we won by bankrupting the other guy and instead of paying attention to how dumb it is to keep going we compete against ourselves and even arm the rest of the world. Also it’s been centuries since any government thought about messing with the mainland if we could stick to our hemisphere we would need the smallest fraction of what we waste.

As for theft it is hardly unique to the private sphere and at least a dumb thief will be caught abs a smart thief won’t steal anywhere near as much as someone will waste when they can just increase their budget by raising taxes.

Conservative's ultimate goal has always been to make cruelty seem like a virtue.

Tantalizing discussion.  What one sentence, way out there description would you provide of the non-conservatives?  Say...maybe their opposition the Liberals?

Not so sure about that. A different debate. Back to your question of what gov't does better

So how exactly would you privatize it?  You asked what they did better?  I gave you a couple of examples.

I guess that they are the only ones doing it (kind of) then technically they are doing it best but it doesn’t take much to conclude that their spending is horribly out of balance, goes largely unchecked and if it was in private hands would be slashing the exuberant waste like Jack the Ripper. I guess you are right the arms race isn’t over it’s just we are racing ourselves, we produce things, give them to others and then need to produce more, bigger and better things to defeat the same things we just introduced to the rest of the world. It is nuts and almost single handedly destroys the budget every single year.

I certainly agree with you regarding the bloated defense budget, but privatizing the military, NEVER . How would that have worked in WW2 ?

Is it way out there to suggest that liberals care more about the well being of society as a whole? You know being  only as strong as the weakest link.  Take for example the bill just passed, the Republicans wanted most of the money going to corporations while the Democrats wanted most going to      those who lost their jobs, luckily the latter passed  I'm not really into chaos.that much.

But they don't.  Daily they rage about wealthy people (>250K, although the politicians are on the high side of that group), corporations (that employ people and create goods for society). Rage against the tax base and the employers.  Liberal identity politics often looks like care for the poor and downtrodden, but it's typically in exchange for a vote.  Hence the middle class shrinking under the last liberal president.  Less well-to-do and more dependents that think the Libs are on their side.  They're not.  They're on the side as the Repubs - the politicrat side.

I've got to think that this is one of the areas that conservatives, at least the more rational ones, agree that government should play a role in ....... the whole all men are created equal, unalienable rights stuff.

There are a lot of good common men employed by corporations.  Lot of good common men have created their own corporations.  However, corporations cannot tax others or print money like a government.  Not a fair comparison, at all.
