Ragsdale Strikes Out 10 as Bulls Fall Short to No. 1 Florida

Carson Ragsdale ties a career-high 10 strikeouts in Sunday’s, 2-1 loss to No. 1 Florida

GAINESVILLE (March 8, 2020) – The USF baseball team fell to No. 1 Florida in the series finale Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

Carson Ragsdale (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) kept the Bulls toe-to-toe with No. 1 Florida tossing another strong outing this season. The redshirt senior right-hander tied his career-high in strikeouts with 10 this afternoon. Ragsdale allowed two hits and one run through four innings.

The Bulls (5-10) fell behind in the bottom of the fourth inning to the No. 1 Gators (16-0), 1-0.  Florida stole the lead from USF in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run by Nathan Hickey.

The Bulls were able to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning. After Nick Gonzalez (Tampa, Fla.) would hit a lead-off single to left field, Carmine Lane (Lake Placid, Fla.) would move Gonzalez into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. JD Dutka (Suwanee, Ga.) would tie the game with an RBI double down the left field line to score Gonzalez.

Orion Kerkering (Venice, Fla.) suffered the loss on the hill for the Bulls allowing one run on one hit through 1.1 innings.

Notable

·        Connor Churchill (Tampa, Fla.) recorded his fifth appearance out of the bullpen.

·        Dylan Burns (Vero Beach, Fla.) tossed 1.2 innings of relief.

  • Jordan Santos (Tampa, Fla.) drew two walks.

    Up Next

The Bulls return home for back-to-back midweek games against Pittsburgh and Florida A&M, March 10-11.

I'd think the University of Tampa would have a shot at beating this year's Bulls team.

It's baseball. We were 1 run away from the the best team in the country.

Ugh, Ragsdale strikes out 10 and only gives up 2 runs and we lose 2-1?

Thats a game you HAVE to find a way to win if this team has any shot at being competitive this year.

I understand UF is #1, but you can’t get swept in a 3-game series. This is baseball, not football, and Mohl has to find a way to manufacture some semblance of offense to take 1 out of 3 games.

We hit like 2019 Chris Davis, minus the power.

Any idea why Ragsdale only threw 4 innings?   Sucks that his only run given up was on a wild pitch on a 3rd strike.  He likes to throw the curve ball in the dirt for an out pitch

Probably just a scheduled 4 innings regardless as a result of last season’s injury. It happens. With no Spring training, guys are still ramping things up incrementally. I was throwing a god **** perfect game once during my freshman year and got yanked after the 5th just because that was “the plan” to get everyone their work.

I have to say it and its only because somebody ridiculed me for saying something similar before.

Moral victories are for losers!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
