USF Closes Regular Season at No. 6/4 UConn as Part of Big Monday on ESPN2

The Bulls look for their fourth-straight win and their sixth win in their last eight games.

 

TAMPA (March 1, 2020)  It’s the end of the road for the 2019-20 regular season and USF will close it out on Big Monday when it travels to Hartford to face American Athletic Conference regular season champion, UConn, at the XL Center in Hartford. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN2.

 

The Bulls look for their fourth-straight win and their sixth win in their last eight games.

A QUICK LOOK AT THE BULLS

- In just 23 collegiate games, Elena Tsineke has made her presence felt for the Bulls after being cleared to play by the NCAA ... Tsineke missed the first five games of the season after being ruled ineligible by the NCAA ... Tsineke leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game ... She has scored double figures in 17 of the 24 games she has played in, including a career-high 25 points against Temple on Feb. 9, a 21-point outing against SMU on March 29, and two 20-point efforts, at Temple on Jan. 16 and against Houston on Jan. 29 ... Tsineke was 8-for-18 (44.4 percent) from the field, including 3-for-7 (42.9 percent) from behind the arc, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line against the Owls ... She also netted 19 points, three times, against Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 29 in the Cancun Challenge, against Cincinnati in The American opener on Jan. 5 and against East Carolina on Feb. 25 ... - Mununga has recorded a double-double in nine of the 26 games she has played in ... She has grabbed double-digit rebounds in 15 games, and in five of the last six.

 

- Sydni Harvey is back to her old self after missing the first 10 games of the season due to a leg injury ... She’s second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.9 points per game, and has scored double figures in the last three-straight games and in seven of the last 10 games ... She set a career high for three-point shots made in a game with seven against Temple (7-for-8) en route to a career-high tying 25 points on Feb. 9 ... She had a near perfect offensive night shooting 7-for-10 (70.0 percent) from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to go along with her three-point performance.

 

- Elisa Pinzan, third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.0 points per game, has netted double figures in the last three games, and eight of the last 12 ... Pinzan posted a career high tying 23-point effort against UCF on Jan. 19 ... She shot 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from the field and 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from behind the three-point arc ... She set career highs with eight field goals and seven three-point shots made against the Knights ... Pinzan had back-to-back 18- and 15-point efforts against Tulane on Feb. 13 and No. 5/6 UConn on Feb. 16, respectively ... Pinzan also netted 14 points against No. 2/2 Baylor on Nov. 19 ... Despite missing five games - Idaho, Mississippi State, UNLV, Brown and Cincinnati - due to an ankle injury, she continues to lead the team in assists per game, and is currently dishing out 4.8 per outing, which is first in the AAC through Feb. 29 ... Pinzan handed out six or more assists in eight of the past 15 games - back to Dec. 6 - and in seven-of-14 since returning from her ankle injury at Tulsa on Jan. 19 ...  She is coming off a career-high nine assists against SMU on Feb. 29.

 

- Tamara Henshaw, second on the team in rebounding, comes into the UConn game with 877 career boards, following her five-rebound effort against SMU on Feb. 29 ... She reached 800 rebounds with her seven boards against Cincinnati on Jan. 5 ... Against Memphis, Henshaw surpassed Jessica Lawson (2007-10), and her 863 rebounds, into sixth on the all-time list ... SCOUTING UCONN

- UConn comes into Monday’s game with the Bulls boasting a 25-3 overall record and a 15-0 mark in The American ... The Huskies are currently 117-0 in American Athletic Conference games, following their 92-40 win at Houston on Feb. 29. 

 

- UConn has four players averaging double figures in the scoring column, led by Megan Walker and her 19.4 points per game ... Crystal Dangerfield is second, averaging 14.8 points per contest, and Christyn Williams and Olivia Nelson-Ododa are netting 14.5 points and 11.0 points per outing, respectively ... Walker also leads the Huskies in rebounding, grabbing 8.6 per game, and Nelson-Ododa is pulling down 8.5 boards per contest.

THE SERIES AGAINST THE HUSKIES
- Monday’s game between USF and UConn marks the 31st meeting between the two schools, dating back to the 2002-03 campaign ... The Huskies holding a 30-0 lead in the all-time series ... It is also the final meeting between the Bulls and Huskies as conference brethren as UConn will make its return to the BIG EAST Conference starting in 2020-21.

 

- USF and UConn have been conference mates since the 2005-06 campaign when the Bulls joined the BIG EAST, and before both schools joined The American for the 2013-14 season.

Short of a major upset looks like we will be the 4 seed in the conference tourney. Means we will have to go through uconn in the semifinals just to get to the finals. We really need to get to the 3 line but need a lot of help to get there.

At shoot around now. 8.5 healthy bodies. Hopefully 9 by game time. Edit, I was only 1 for 3 from the line but made my only 3 attempted. I quit after that.

This team is not beating UCONN in their house.  Too many issues with this USF team this year.  

Last year was one of our best chances, going into the season.  But it all collapsed due to lots of injuries, illnesses, and other issues.
