Or that they only used a handful of balls all game, so they had little to no life and were scuffed as hell...or doubleheaders in wool uniforms.

Didn't the scuffing make the ball move more?  Thought Gaylord Perry made a career of that and vaseline.

The link I posted kinda explains, yes the foreign substances helped movement but it was t necessarily on purpose. Basically Scuff it throw it and see what happens. When that got taken away pitchers weren’t able to reproduce the movement on their own.

Of course it will.   I mean who wants to make the NCAA tournament twice in 3 years.  Gotta get rid of that coach .....
