Well, considering 53% voted for the community investment tax and the tax benefited other causes it didn't turn out to be that bad of a deal at $168.5M. I think it was the $515M+ to build Marlins Park is what has local and state politicians from opening their check book. The Marlins ownership has gutted the team and a new stadium did not address their attendance woes. Nobody wants a repeat of that in Tampa which likely leads to Rays leaving Tampa in 2028.

Will the Rays be playing in Tampa until 2028 when they leave?

Highly unlikely, since the Mayor of St Pete is holding them to their lease at the Trop till it runs out in 2027......unless some kind of deal is struck before then.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”
