We were good in the mid 80s too. Schools like FGC have passed us.

Maybe its just a string of bad luck with Coaches.  Cardieri was pretty good for us while he was in his prime, but things started going downhill at the end of his career.  Kingston was good, but didn't stick around long.  Mohl doesn't seem to be the answer - unless he comes through with a surprising turnaround this year - doubtful!

I don't know about that

There is nothing wrong with our conference in baseball.  We should probably be better than 7th, but definitely not a shoe in for conference champ each year

This is a good baseball conference, so no we shouldn't expect CC each year.  But I think we should expect better than fighting just to make the frickin Conference Tournament, and at least be able to compete for CC's more often than not.

I agree we should be in the upper half of the conference most years, but this conference is pretty good in baseball and with the injuries we had to the pitching staff (coupled with losing your top 2 starting pitchers from the year before along with top reliever) last year it isn't hard to imagine falling off.  We should be good, but we're not going to have that kind of depth.  Without really getting into the analysis too much, I could see us finishing in the upper half this year or very easily down in that 7 range.  A lot is going to depend on where the offense comes from and of course how these guys look in their return from injuries.  There are some young pups with upside as well.

Look at MBB losing Yetna and how much that affects them.

I understand, it seems like injuries is the story across the board for our athletic programs.  It just seems like we are in a recruiting hotbed for really good HS baseball players and we should have more depth than we do.  I get that the Florida and Florida States of the world are going to get the cream of the crop.  But we have nice facilities and are in a pretty good baseball conference as you admit.  We should be able to get our fair share of really good baseball players and depth.  At least more than we are right now.

We're not just competing with UF, FSU, and UM but the whole country.  Not to mention good programs statewide.   There's tons of talent, but a lot of competition.  We're getting good players, but again the conference is no slouch.

As for facilities, the stadium is nice, but I don't know if things are really overly extravagant.  There are no locker rooms on site.  The bullpens and hitting area for baseball is good but not really spectacular.

I get it.

But you have to admit we should and could be better than we are.  It wasnt that long ago we were better with the worst facilities imaginable.

I just figured these new facilities would have produced more "fruit" by now.

We won conference titles at the old Red McEwen. What a dump. And produced MLB talent.
