Yep and not just major sports but diversity in general life style and things to do.  Orlando is pretty much all about tourists and theme parks.  That would get old quick.

They do have a brand new performing arts center to compete with The Straz. It will have 3 venues compared to the 4 the Straz has(5 if you count Teco theater in the Patel Conservatory). That's one of my primary interests in life. I expect to start seeing their venue get the newest shows at the same time now, or even before we do, where they used to lag behind. We have the professional sports teams and beaches. I expect they'll compete in variety for everything else in short order with the population base they have.

They also have incredibly terrible traffic.

great article

i always saw the potential of usf

I never really did, commuter school in an urban environment surrounded largely by dilapidated section 8 apartments.  Had a lot of land to grow between Fletcher and Fowler but I really never saw the potential and am amazed at what was accomplished however equally disappointed it came at the cost of having a winning sports program.  I know college is first and foremost academics but is it too much to ask to have your cake and eat it too?  Win a conference freakin championship in FB or Hoops for the love of god!

They have some things going for them.  But our city is becoming a boom town.  Downtown Tampa and downtown St. Pete have become really cool places to hang out.   Then we have all the sporting options and the beaches, not near as many tourists except at peak seasons.  Im just a Tampa guy so my perspective is what it is.

I think we will in both sports at some point if we can keep these coaches.  That will make it that much sweeter when it happens!
