Not until USF wins that first title

I'm not convinced that fixes it.

Yes... because in every program across America, when a new coach is hired, 100% of fans love the hire!

We "grumpy old men" have just had enough of the rental coach... either he is good and he's gone in 3 years, or, he's bad and he's gone in 3 years (if we can afford it, which is fun). On the good side, it takes a bad hire about 1.5 years to tear it down again.

As for donors... I hope you're right, but, I would be hard pressed to open my checkbook as a big time donor when this guy tells me that "we're building something here" and that thing we're building is a ladder for him to climb off this ship to a bigger one.

Having said that, I don't know that anyone is "bashing" him that I have seen. I am optimistic that he will be a good fit. Maybe he even sticks around a bit because his father lives close and they will get to coach together. There's a sliver of a chance that he either falls in love with Tampa, or, we get invited to a P5 conference during his tenure and he decides to stay.

As far as "anyone other than Leavitt" candidates, I am very pleased with the hire and he would have been my top choice. Larry Scott would have been more loyal most likely, but, Jeff Scott is the better hire today. Hell, maybe he'll have a ton of success and Larry Scott will get more experience and he can be our next HC when this guy bolts and we'll have the best of both worlds.

While a number of us really wanted Leavitt back, deep down, I knew that it was highly unlikely. I would have been thrilled, but, I am not destroyed by it not being him. I hope he gets the FAU job and does well there.

Well it will help give us more ammo for when we have to argue against the negative peeps lol. We can say that Jeff Scott is the best USF coach ever because he is the only coach to win USF a title.

This better be one of the first questions imo

good article on the evolution of their offense. seems they fit the scheme to the players on hand. this  stuck out to me

They’ve always been at their best at spreading the ball around to speedy skill players and winning matchups on the perimeter. They aren’t stocked with the sorts of OL, TE, or FBs to consistently overpower.

New member here and while I've visited and read the board for a long time, and have seen what I call "TheBullspen Grumpy Old Men",  I'm still shocked at some of the negativity around Jeff Scott. If you look around the Twitterverse and fansites, this guy is at the onset, a great hire. Clemson insiders and fans alike are lauding this hire for us if it is indeed what unfolds.

For everyone pining for Leavitt, stop and go get some help. You all sound like jilted lovers who just can't seem to get over that first love. As a kid, going to USF games, I was in awe of The Jim and how he built this program. His passion on the sidelines is what made me fall in love with USF Football and later attend and graduate from USF. As much as we'd all like to dream of this triumphant return and applaud his 8-9 win seasons, it wasn't going to happen. That ship has sailed and the sooner we as fanbase move on, the better.

My point is, lets get behind the new leader. All we can do as fans is show the new HC that we're ready to support.

And for anyone trashing the fact that Scott has never been a HC, so what?! A lot of coaches who came into programs and found abundant success had never been HC's before. It's a silly way of measuring what you think will be his future success. The guy is coming from a 1st class program, mentored by a FL football family and groomed under Dabo, recruits FL, AND is an offensive-minded coach. LOL, the guy literally checks all the boxes.

Also of note, you know this guy wants to make a mark and I'd be willing to bet he won't be outworked when it comes to shmoozing donors and injecting life into this program we all love.

Thanks for having me. Go Bulls!

Strong first post ... respect.

I will of course get behind Scott as the new coach.  I wish him and the USF Bulls all the success in the world.  I thought Holtz was going to be great.  I thought Strong was going to be great.  I just don't want to be let down, so I am going to support the new coach, but I expect no miracles.  I want to see some improvement from game to game/season to season for a start.  We need a serviceable QB to get things going.

Go Bulls.  Maybe the 5th coach of the USF Bulls is the one who takes us there.  Cautiously optimistic.  Make us competitive again, please!

What kind of offense will he run?

Clemson runs a spread RPO, typically with 1 RB, 1 TE, and 3 WRs.
