Or maybe like when a former coach of ours moved up in conference he just didn't win.  Maybe Hermann and Frost are great at AAC level but not P5.

There seems to be a trend

Remember when everyone thought we were getting Strong on the cheap because he was riding the Texas buyout?

Good times...

I remember jumping up and down with pure joy when we got Holtz...Jesus...

Hiring new coaches is really unpredictable.  Outside of a few "geniuses" on here that foresee every move made by USF ADs, the hires of Skip, Orlando and other coaches looked like decent moves.  Who didn't want an asst from KY that had head coaching experience coaching a national team. But other schools do the same thing. You look for someone who has had reasonable success in the past, you vet them for personality traits and then you hope it translates to your institution.  The other way, to hire a coordinator from a school at an equal or higher level but with no head coaching experience, is just as risky.

Seems to be about it.  Watch, someone will offer him a head coach job at a P5.

That means it is make or break season for Tom Herman at Texas. Pressure is on in season 3

I think season 3 is going to be a bear for Hermann when he fires both coordinators after season 2.

Yeah its way early in the process.  Norvell probably will get scooped up.

Im surprised by the lack of success so far by Hermann and Frost....maybe the 3rd year is a charm.

Some of us say "No retreads!"  But if Frost were to be available?????

Been saying this for a while. I think coaches have a ceiling on their respective coaching abilities. I'm not saying that the can't learn and move to a higher level. Maybe Hermann, Frost, Taggart, etc. just were not ready to make that move. And MAYBE in the future the P5 won't be so quick to offer ridiculous amounts of money to a  G5 that hasn't even made it thru one full four to five year recruitment class.

Tom Herman just finished year 3 (except for the bowl game) and has a 24-14 record with 3 winnings seasons, 3 bowl appearances (2 wins so far and 3rd bowl to be played), and  a Sugar Bowl win.  He hasn't "failed", the expectations at Texas are worlds different than at the g5 level.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
