He would be our best chance as a lifer...if successful.

Why do you think that?  If successful he’s out of here in 2-3 years for P5 HC money.

“Best chance” not guaranteed that he would stay...

I wonder if he could bring Feliepe Franks with him? 🤔

Franks is definitely an upgrade to what we have now.

That’s a no for me. He needs to be a head coach at a smaller school first

UCF has had success with hiring coordinators. We shouldn’t rule them out.

that absolutely needs to be the way to go. hire a young energetic guy that has coached under a very good HC(i.e. Jeff Scott at Clemson). What  Coaching tree they come from matters.

As has Memphis and Cinci.  Was also Houston's move when they were the class of conference.

Was also the case the year that Temple won conference.

I think George OLeary is the only head coach who has won the conference who was a head coach before.  I guess Tuberville technically got a split too

This. We need a young offensive minded coach. Even if he leaves early that means we were successful.

Anyone know who the OC is at SMU?

I just feel like this is a somewhat defeatist attitude.

So we are looking for a unicorn?  I say we hire someone who will leave in a couple of years.  We need a string of those.

Oh I agree...I am not necessarily married to the concept of someone staying. I just posted that if we hire young and that person leaves it means we were successful. I guess my concern is that we are 500 in hiring people getting a string of those correct may be long odds relative to our track record. But so be it. No retreads please.

We are in complete agreement.

I almost think programs in our situation have to become adept at hiring up and comers.
