I can kind of understand Rocco getting it but there's no freaking way Boone gets 2nd and that big of a difference. Looking at the voting, it was a joke ...

American League results
1) Rocco Baldelli, MIN: 13 (1st place), 13 (2nd place), 2 (3rd place) -- 106 points
2) Aaron Boone, NYY: 13 (1st), 9 (2nd), 4 (3rd) -- 96
3) Kevin Cash, TB: 3 (1st), 3 (2nd), 9 (3rd) -- 33
4) Bob Melvin, OAK: 3 (2nd), 10 (3rd) -- 19
5) AJ Hinch, HOU: 1 (1st), 1 (2nd), 4 (3rd) -- 12
6) Terry Francona, CLE: 1 (2nd), 1 (3rd) -- 4

I agree, but just like with the HOF voting. If a BBWA member doesn't like the way your faced looked when you walked past them, you can kiss their vote goodbye.

I guess Cash has permanently tweaked those purist fossil writers who think the opener idea is a slap in the face to traditional baseball ....

It honestly plays a role, unfortunately.

Yet more and more teams are starting to adopt it.

Not surprised Cash got screwed but happy for Baldelli.

The AL MVP was a joke also. How can you be most valuable, but your team was nowhere near the playoffs.  AND you missed the last 20 or so games?

Its Baseball.  Nothing is equal, unbiased or fair.  Everything is geared for the big markets of the world.

It really is amazing that the Tampa Bays and Oaklands of the world do as well as they do.....everything, I mean everything is stacked against them.

The BBWA have shown that they don't take into account the value of the rest of a team when evaluating for the awards. it's good because it's not like basketball or football where one player has the opportunity to take over a game. A pitcher can, but we are long past the days of pitchers trying to go nine everytime out.

Another example of this is Jacob Degrom two years in a row.

In any case, the AL MVP race will always be a question of is there a player whose numbers surpass Trout's eye test (and numbers). He did finish second in the league in HR while missing those 20 games and has the track record to get the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe I'm too much of a basketball head.  If your team SUCKS (with you playing) how valuable can you be?
