Any idea how these were determined? Criteria wise? Is this during the time USF was in the conference? I can’t seem to make this out.

Most all of them are proprietary algorithms based on wins, losses and strength of schedule based on wins and losses and yes this was when we were in the Big East which typically was in the top three and is why it was raided and parted out leaving what was seen as the least valuable parts which then went to the least valuable conferences to part out its best members to make something not as good as what once was.

I mean I could see them as #3 when Miami and VT was in the conference but I am not buying that they were #3 when those teams left and were replaced with USF and Uconn

Well believe it, typically there was two top 10 teams every season and we tended to boost the out of conference resume which was usually pretty good.

WVU was the only team that moved the needle with an occasional Ville. The rest of the conference did not do much.

Puc already said it but it beats repeating, the AAC doesn't hold a candle to the big east.  UConn has been like the worst team in FBS since the AAC formed, but they actually were good enough to win the big east once back in the day.  SoS is awful now, so wins today do not equal wins back then.

So the team that beat us while we were in the BE?  THAT UConn?

I must say that I really don’t notice must difference between the AAC and BE. If the Pee5 stuff was not so pronounced now we woukd see our four ranked teams ranked significantly better than they are now. The BE teams did not have to live in that prejudice that is now CFB.
