If a student's parents paid even $0.01 in taxes to the U.S. government, some fraction of that penny was allotted to the military academies.

But If they pay zero point zero can the student still attend the academy?

Same as a practicing Mormon who is allowed to decide what their income is and what 10% of that income is gets to attend BYU at no cost at the time of attendance.

I will take your word for it but from the limited amount I know about the Mormon religion I have a hard time believing that anything is left up to simply your word on a subject. It seems to be intrusive into people’s lives and I would think there would be some probing questions if your tithe did not seem equitable to your perceived station.

Is there a church or government that isn't?

Edit: Would it make you feel better if I said Mormons don't have to write as large a check to the University at the time of enrollment as non-Mormons?

The Flying Spaghetti Monster? Not particularly, it would work better for me if we can pretend argue about something I even marginally care about. I thought I could fake my way thru it but the whole thing just feels kind of forced.

It’s not you, it’s me. You are a great fake arguer and I could tell you really were trying to indulge me, I guess I just need more of an emotional connection to the argument than I want to admit to myself.

That new post seems kind of wordy and sounds a lot like free to me 🤣

I had the same argument with a hobo the other day on Nebraska. I gave him a bottle of water and he asked if I was giving it to him for "free." I then lectured him on the same points you're making and explained the ins and outs of capitalism and how that water represented an actual amount of work I had done in order to purchase said bottle of water, not to mention the gas I purchased to drive to where he was. I then explained that my time was being used to have the conversation and that each moment we spent in the discussion was time I was not spending earning more money. He agreed that the bottle of water I gave him was not "free" and then we both read some Adam Smith together.
