Hi Guest,

In our efforts to raise funds for USF Football, the site is giving away a football season full of ad-free surfing at The Bulls Pen.

Would you consider buying a ticket or two to the raffle that will award this to you or a fellow member of the board?

Each ticket purchase goes directly to our effort to raise $10K in "fan money" for the program.  Below is the link:

American Athletic Conference Rankings and Bowl Projections: Week 3

Recommended Posts

Here are my rankings and bowl projections updated through yesterday's (9/7) games:

Week 3 Rankings

1. #18 UCF (2-0, 0-0) -  The Knights rolled up 574 yards of total offense in their 48-14 win at Florida Atlantic. UCF was able to run at will but the passing game (8 for 20 passing and 3 of 13 in 3rd down conversions) will have to show improvement if the Knights expect to run the table in 2019. Up next: #23 Stanford (1-1)

2. Memphis (2-0, 0-0) - Kenneth Gainwell scored three touchdowns as the Tigers pulled away in the second half to defeat FCS Southern. But the story through two games has been Memphis' improved defensive play which could give them the advantage in what should be a high scoring West. Up next: at South Alabama (1-1)

3. Houston (1-1, 0-0) - The Cougars bounced back in a short week to defeat FCS Prairie View A&M 37-17. It was tough to glean much from this performance as Houston benefited from a short field early and often, and jumped out to a 24-3 lead in the first quarter. Up next: #22 Washington State, Friday (2-0)

4. Cincinnati (1-1, 0-0) - The Bearcats gave up 508 yards of offense and were blown out of the water by "rival" Ohio State. In what had the potential to be a statement game for Cincinnati, the only statement made was that very few programs in the American can expect to compete with Top 25 Power 5 programs Up next: Miami, OH (1-1)

5. Temple (1-0, 0-0) - Bye. Up next: Maryland (2-0)

6. Navy (1-0, 0-0) - Bye. Up next: East Carolina (1-1)

7. SMU (2-0, 0-0)  Shane Buechele threw for 292 yards and 3 touchdowns and Xavier Jones 127 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Mustangs rolled over North Texas 49-27. SMU is now only one three teams in the conference to start 2-0 this season, but have a brutal back-to-back games at Houston and at Memphis later this years that will tell as a lot about how good this team is. Up next: Texas State (0-2)

8. Tulane (1-1, 0-0) -  Just McMillan struggled passing (10 of 33 for 103 yards) and the Green Wave struggled to get much offense going in their 24-6 loss at #10 Auburn. Tulane kept it close in the first half with a stiff defense but now face a tough slate of games after next week's match up with Missouri State. Up next: Missouri State (0-1)

9. Tulsa (1-1, 0-0) -  T.K. Wilkerson ran for two 4th quarter touchdowns as the Golden Hurricane pulled away from San Jose State in the second half of their 34-16 win. Tulsa was extremely efficient in racking up 539 yards of total offense but the 12 penalties committed kept this one from being a blowout. Up next: Oklahoma State (2-0)

10.  East Carolina (1-1, 0-0) -  The Pirates bounced back from their season opening loss at North Carolina State with a 49-6 drubbing of Gardner-Webb. The ECU offense appears up to the task this season and a relatively soft schedule could allow the Pirates to make their first bowl game since the 2014 season. Up next: at Navy (1-0)

11. UConn (1-1, 0-0) - The Huskies blew an early 13-0 lead to Illinois and lost their 17th straight game to an FBS team, losing 31-23. The move to football independence and weekends with UMass, URI and the Coast Guard can't come soon enough for UConn. Up next: Bye

12. South Florida (0-2, 0-0) - The Bulls offense self destructed in their 14-10 loss at Georgia Tech. While the defense showed marked improvement from their 49-0 loss to Wisconsin, USF was ultimately undone by costly penalties and a likely blown call by the referees on an apparent touchdown late. Up next: South Carolina State (2-0)

Bowl Projections

NY6 Bowl - Boise State vs. TBD

Birmingham Bowl - UCF vs. SEC

Gasparilla Bowl - Memphis vs. C-USA

Hawaii Bowl - Houston vs. MWC

Military Bowl - Navy vs. ACC

Boca Raton Bowl - Cincinnati vs. C-USA

Cure Bowl - Temple vs. Sun Belt

Frisco Bowl - SMU vs. At Large

We will still beat teams 9, 10, and 11. After that let’s see if the 4th quarter was the start of something better...

I hope so. I think the best hope this season is the change at quarterback, and against South Carolina State there is an opportunity to get in much value game reps.

Illinois is worse than georgia tech, and usf played gt closer than uconn played illinois. Then there is last year. You're really just looking for a reaction putting usf below uconn like this, because you have zero evidence or reason that usf is worse than uconn, making your rankings a joke. Because it isnt based on objective reason. Please stop.

The only reason UConn is ahead of us is they have won a game - albeit against an FCS team. But if you really want to argue who should be in 11th place versus 12th place knock yourself out lol.

UConn has something we don't. It's called a win. And I've seen no evidence that GT is better than Illinois. I think USF is potentially better than 3-6 AAC teams but based on results I don't think it's ridiculous to rank them last or next to last right now.

UCONN doesn't stand a chance agains USF, especially a Bulls team with tenacity. USF is not in a position to "look ahead" past their upcoming games. Next three games will be wins, and one will be a complete blowout, you know one of those frustration games. I do not envy UConn.
