Macon targetting penalty

I understand the need to protect players but I think that call was functionally incorrect.  The QB crouched and ducked his head.  I find it pretty much impossible for Macon to not have made contact with the QB helmet considering how the QB changed the position of his body.  I think USF should appeal the suspension.

Macon launched, leading with the crown of his helmet. Dude created the contact. QB crouched to fall forward and not fumble the ball. Macon’s efforts were to create the fumble. He’s sitting out the first half next week. 

Textbook on how not to tackle. Zero percent chance they muddy the waters here by “seeing his point of view.”

That was the right call he ducked his head and led with it to the runners head. Sucks he was slow to to get up too I bet that doesn't get called if he doesn't go down and give the booth forever to look at it before officially reviewing it

Even though I think the rule is dumb it was the correct call. Macon needs to be smarter and not lean with his helmet

It was a bad call.  You are right, the QB lowered his helmet for the contact.

Academically I agree with you about leading with the crown. And I understand that slow motion video provides a tremendous opportunity to slow things down and analyze  But it must be looked at in context of what both players are doing in the moment.  The hit with Macon and the QB is something that happens on a lot of  plays when a running back is running the ball.  It's just not analyzed as much.

They probably would not have even looked at the play if he was not shaken up.
