He has worked hard and improved every year and he is the best we have. However, you can not win a conference with that caliber of player at the QB position. A good defense and running game can only take you so far.

If we are legit w/PJ at the helm we should beat Pitt. I'm hoping the PJ I saw in the PSU game shows back up .... if needed.

All we will see is a heavy dose of Hall & Ponton with a little run option with Julmiste.

If we start losing BE games because of PJ, gimme Hill or a young guy now to get his feet wet.

Wolfman Posted October 4, 2005 Group: Member Topic Count: 8 Content Count: 188 Reputation: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 03/15/2003 Share Posted October 4, 2005 PJ is our best option at this point. He has shown the ability to play a conservative QB position. When he starts pressing is when he gets into trouble. It is the same story in all his bad games dating back to last year. A receiver early in the game drops a pass or 2 or worse it tips off his hand and gets intercepted, that is when PJ starts pressing. When the early passes connect and we get out to an early lead he seems to settle in and is competent.

We've basically settled for a situation where we're playing with a QB that we're asking not to lose the game, rather than a QB who we can ask to win the game, and 9 times out of 10 its going to kill you in the long run. There's a reason we've done so well on offense in the 3 games we've won and so poorly in the 2 games we've lost. In the games we won we got out to that early lead and were able to "hide" that deficiency because we didn't HAVE to pass the ball. In the two games where we've had to try and rely on the pass to come back or keep us in the game we've seen the results.
