Ryan, with all due respect, USF played Elon last year in the first game.

But we didn't claim to be national champions while losing to a middle of the pack SEC team without 9/11 starters on defense.

Actually, it may. Wisconsin and Stanford could be a wash. PITT and BYU could be equivalent. Georgia Tech might be better than FAU this year, time will tell. FAMU and SCSt. are interchangeable. The point being, the schedules aren't drastically different in terms of quality this season.

I actually went and checked the ESPN FPI, which, while not perfect, at least provides a metric upon which we can currently judge the OOC schedules.

Wisconsin - 34, BYU - 43, Georgia Tech - 85

Stanford - 35, Pitt - 47, FAU - 87

It doesn't get much closer than that.

I should add that because we have both Wisconsin and BYU at home, you could argue that UCF has a harder overall OOC schedule having to go on the road to play Pitt. I dislike UCF as much as anyone on here, but I have to be somewhat objective about these things when I can be.

Let's hear it for TV scheduling for the AAC this opening weekend. EIGHT of the 12 games will be played on National TV over the course of 4 days (Thursday through Sunday) (2 - ABC, 2 - ESPN, 2 - CBSSN, 1 - FS1, 1 - ACCN). We have a legitimate chance to knock off 3 to 4 P5 opponents. Hopefully the conference takes advantage of the opportunity.

Well, this is interesting.. I am talking about an opening season game, and you speak of the 2017 season when UCF was undefeated and  beat Auburn, and somehow interject the 2018 Bowl outcome  with a  loss to LSU?

Not sure I can follow any of that logic, but thanks.

What makes you think Pitt is actually good? Two losing seasons, one .500 season, and two winning season. They are in the ACC and that is all. Besides Clemson the whole ACC has been pretty mediocre over the last few years. I don't think Pitt is really that much better or worse than us. They lost 14-45 to Central Florida Community college. We lost 38-10 and were on a losing streak in a meaningless game besides pride.

I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to make. The rankings aren't mine. I am just illustrating objectively that UCF's OOC schedule this season is very similar in strength to ours.

IMO, playing Wisconsin and BYU (even at home) and don't forget GT on the road.....is a  much tougher OOC then Stanford at home and Pitt on the road.

Whisky and BYU are at least projected to be pretty decent teams (whether that transpires - who knows).  Stanford and Pitts projections not as high.
