Is this the first season the players are wearing these types of helmets? If so, it might explain the overall lack of injuries that have been reported this far this camp. It's a great idea no matter what.

These are simply padded covers that go over the helmet. Not 100% sure of what brand USF uses, but most use Guardian Caps.

If these are effective at protecting injury why not use them in game? Simply because of vanity?

Yes Antonio Brown would not sign off on the change.

Sounds like prima facie evidence that it is a good idea.

That is all that it is though, these have not proven to help with concussions however it makes us feel good, kind of like putting a life preserver under your seat in an airplane.

I am not sure what they do or do not do but it seems silly to used it in practice to "prevent concussions" but then not use them for games. Either they prevent concussions so you use them or they are ineffective so why practice in them?

They make us feel good and like we are doing something even when we are not.  We are just buying time until the players will be forced to wear bubble suits.

I'm sure the passengers on Sully's plane were pretty happy that those were there for their use, just in case.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
