I agree, but I've been saying baseball is dead for about 20 years.
I think it's like a giant redwood. It's dead, rotted from the inside, but still standing.

It's dying, but not dead. It is a changing market. Regional TV viewership is at all time highs. The networks need summer programming, so they pay a premium. The old model of generating half your revenue from ticket sales, concessions, and parking is dead, but none of these teams need to have a single fan show up and they are already turning a profit.

Hell, the Rays get $83 million per year just from the regional Fox Sports contract. Throw on another $70 million in the national TV split and you can see just how profitable the team with the second lowest attendance can be without selling a single ticket. ($153 million in revenue versus $60 million payroll)

Not dead but dying.  The sport has deep roots back 150 years maybe more, I saw them play the game on little house on the prairie 😀.  But like any plant, if it fails to get enough water(money) over time it will die and fall.  I believe in the next 10 years the sport will continue to fade into irrelevance example is the World Series on TV Land being beat out in ratings 4 to 1 by impractical jokers reruns.

It definitely is not just a Tampa thing however this franchise was doomed from the start.  Who did the research to build the stadium in St. Pete knowing that all of the snow birds from up north with all the discretionary income are gone in the summer.  The game is dying as are most of the fans (literally as well as figuratively).

Baseball has been dying for 100 years.

This is my favorite quote from one of the articles and it's from 1962. Nice football comment in there, too.

“In some circles there is a sharp suspicion that baseball may be riding a good horse to death, carrying a good thing too far. They fear the public may become sated with the home run just as it would become indifferent to football that offered nothing but one long touchdown pass after another and no running.”

I disagree. USF football is a basic human right.

Per @USFFootball's game-week notes, @RJStadium is nearing a lower-bowl sellout (48,007) for Friday's game, including 10K seats held for students.
