We are taking the best team out of Sunbelt...hell I think App State would be the best team in CUSA as well. If they join the AAC, they probably would be in the middle of the pack. They are definitely waaaaay better than Uconn. Their trajectory has been up since they upset 5th ranked Michigan back in the day.

We should just keep the extra $700k a year and think it over. All this may explode in 6 years anyway.

Just a quick question about the money thing.  I've been away for most of the day and went through this quickly.  If we get $750k more but have to pay someone $500k to come play us does that $250k really move the needle?

Yep, look what it did to the Big East ....

We can stay at 11 teams or we can get back to 12 teams. Either way, we are not pulling a team from the G5, we are NEVER going to get BYU, and the whole merge with MWC will NEVER happen.  If we add a team to the AAC we are looking at UMASS, App state or name anybody from CUSA.  It's our reality. I also don't mind adding Army.

We are going to lose credibility with each edition we make to the conference but make it up in volume, so far it’s working swimmingly.

There are only three options that could potentially raise the profile of the conference. BYU, Boise State, and Army. BYU brings the Mormons and ESPN could use their renegotiation to sweeten the pot for BYU while adding them to the AAC as well. BSU adds football credibility, but not much else. Army adds national interest, but their on-field performance over the years has been lacking.

At this point, if it is going to mean an extra $600,000 annually from the TV deal and around another $1,000,000 in a lump-sum exit fee payment, we would be foolish as a conference to do anything but stand pat. Teams like GSU, ODU, UAB, App State, Southern Miss, and their ilk will always be there if we ever decide to go after them. We are the prettiest of the ugly girls and we can land any of these teams whenever we want. Try out the 11 team setup for awhile and see how it works out.

Who says we have to pay someone?

Well, there is the distinct possibility of not being able to plan a 1 for 1 to coincide with the years UConn was supposed to come here and you may have to pay someone.  Just saying that $750k is nice but won't get an IPF built any time soon.

Granted it was before conference championships were all the rage but I'm pretty sure the Big10 managed to make an 11 team conference work for roughly 20 years, I am sure with a little effort the AAC can figure it out if it means more money for the member teams and if the only thing standing in the way is the conference championship game we can just say we had it every year and no one will know any differently.

Big 12 was 12 members before 4 left and 2 came in to make it 10. They never were 11. I don’t think anyone ever tried 11 but some have gotten by with 10 or less

The Big 10 had 10 and that's where it got its name from. Then in 1990 they added Penn State and did not add or take away anyone but simply hid an 11 in the Big Ten logo, and it stayed at 11 until sometime around 2010, 2010-1990 =20 years at 11 teams none of which has anything to do with the Big12.
