Women’s crew balances football at several schools - specifically in the Big 10 and PAC12

A varsity boat caries 9 scholarship athletes (8 rowers plus a cox) and outfitting a single crew (boat, oars, uniforms, etc) is almost 50k

A good rowing program typically consists of a varsity boat, JV boat, lightweight boat and two freshmen boats - that is 45+ athletes

Unfortunately, Florida is not much of a hotbed for collegiate rowing

I think the Kanigits women’s crew has had more reality based success than their football team.

Hopefully we can get somebody in here to revive the program but that may be hard considering our facilities are still sub par.   Even with that said it's inexcusable for our track programs to have been so sub par for so many years being located in Florida.  At the minimum our program should be average just off of the strength of the short distance talent available to us in the state.

The facilities were upgraded not too long ago which included resurfacing the track wother Mondo. Heck, USF just hosted the NCAA east regional championships last year so that says something about the facilities.

Unfortunately this was a long time coming. Best wishes to Warren, and also Don Marsh(pole vault and jumps) who has been at USF much longer.

It is the NCAA going on right now. Sucks to see all of these smaller schools representing at nationals.

Got to do more than resurface the track. The stadium itself has vegetation growing on the surface. Most legitimate D1 track programs also have designated weight and training rooms.

They have a dedicated weight and training room for track and field?

Looks like FSU has a dedicated facility.  UF has one for all spring sports.

Correct. Get out of Florida and you will see even Liberty University does too. Houston (home of Carl Lewis and other Olympians) has amazing facilities including an indoor banked track.

The facilities had little to do with the lack of success at the team level. You should have see them before the Leeroy Selmon Center. The women had no problems winning championships back then.

If not ready to retire, Don Marsh has earned the right to stay. Hoping the new coach keeps him on staff.

Carl Lewis may live in Houston and attended UH but went to high school in Willingboro, NJ.

This.  If you want to attract quality coaches and athletes you gotta have the facilities.   At the minimum I hope some new blood can at least make us competitive because right now the program is in a bad, bad place.
