It's fairly monumental. How many college coaches get to coach a team in the Olympics? I can't really fault him so much for the way he worded it and the way some of us ran with it. He did say "really cool news" not "huge" or "monumental".

He could have used "interesting" but he didn't.

I would argue that it is more than just interesting. I think "really cool" is appropriate. The sport is returning to the Olympics. There are hundreds of college softball coaches out there. USA Softball chose Ken Erickson to lead the squad. This will provide additional exposure for the softball program and the University. It could be the difference that sways a recruit from a bigger-names program to USF and gets us over the hump and back to the WCWS for the first time since 2012.

We have a couch who just finished a stint as a coach in the Olympics and well, that hasn't gone so good. So not so special news in my mind set. Erickson should do well and yes he deserves it. I just don't think of that as "Really Cool News" for the University. Perhaps I'm still a little disappointed about this past years sports season.

The fact that's been with team USA for almost 20 years and the head coach for almost 10 is what makes this a little less exciting.

That’s groundbreaking by Joey’s standards, I think most of his “sources” are press releases and other articles.
