I wonder if coming out and saying that upsets his colleagues, the true journalists, at the Tampa Bay Times who believe honest reporting is taking a **** on the local college team - for decades.

"Honest reporting" is somewhere in between Bianchi and the TB columnists ....

I don’t see beating them as the holy grail either, but I do enjoy beating them more than other opponents.  What I was getting at was more about just putting these guys back in the rear view mirror where they belong.  We definitely need a conference championship, and there’s a pretty good chance we’ll need to beat these guys to get to the championship game.

I’m sick of them being better than us at Football.

See, this I don't get.  They are a bigger school, been playing FB longer.  Why should they be in our review mirror?  Because we were #2 for a week?

Only way either of us get to look at the other in a rear view mirror is if one jumps to a P5 and the other doesn't ...

Mostly because sans the first couple of years after our founding they were firmly in our rear view mirror for the greater part of a decade and a half. The war was over, we had won and then inexplicably we decided to reengage them.

Like when one of us was BCS and the other wasn’t?

So you're saying these things are cyclical?

Nature typically is, that’s why if I ever make a dojo it will show no mercy. If we killed them off like we should have they never would have cycled back.

Not sure USF ever had that power.  If anything, we were fortunate for whatever linked us to L'ville to get into the Big East. Never made us way ahead of UCF.

Not with that attitude but with a can do attitude I think we could have managed,

You think my attitude could have changed things?  Maybe I should have demanded more excellence.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
