Well, there is one tweet out there that said that they tried and CCS said no.  I'm not sure that I believe that.

As to why have different academic and athletics logos?  For the longest time, that's pretty much how it's been.  It's just recently that some universities have used the same or similar logos for both.

Another misconception on here is that the $1 million or so used for this logo could have gone to the football facility.  That's not how university budgets work (just ask UCF).  You can't take money ear-marked for marketing and put it toward athletics.

On the current Daily Stampede podcast they stated that this was 100% true. Love them or hate them they are typically accurate on administrative issues.

I was not a fan of the tagline Tampa Bay, when that last surfaced, but it's a good compromise to keep the identity of the school and not go to some unidentifiable initials like some other schools.

Makes it sound like we're one campus of a directional school located near Miami.  Me no likey.

Wouldn’t USF Tampa Bay be just as geographically appropriate for the St. Pete campus?

I think the idea is USF Tampa Bay covers the entire university system while each branch has its city name replacing "Tampa Bay". When you go to usf.edu, the logo is representing the entire system rather than just the main campus.
