Bulls Head to New Orleans for Three with Tulane
The Bulls have scored 18 runs in their last two games

TAMPA, April 11, 2019 – The USF baseball team rolls into New Orleans for a three-game series against Tulane beginning Friday.

The Bulls (15-16, 2-7 The American) have won two-straight heading into the weekend after defeating Bethune-Cookman, 12-2, Wednesday in Tampa. Jordan Santos (Tampa) hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam as part of an eight-run fourth. He finished with six RBI, the first Bull to do that since April 11, 2015.

USF’s pitching will look the same as last week. Sophomore Baron Stuart (Okeechobee, Fla.) will start Friday, junior Collin Sullivan (Randolph, Mass.) will go Saturday and senior Alec Wisely (Jacksonville, Fla.) will start Sunday.

The Matchup

The Green Wave hold a 33-24 lead in the all-time series over the Bulls. Despite trailing in the head-to-head, USF is 15-12 against Tulane on the road. The Bulls took 2-of-3 from the Green Wave in Tampa last year. USF is seeking its first series win in New Orleans since 2001.

Know the Foe
The Green Wave (22-11, 4-2 The American) boast one of the best offenses in the country, sitting 15th nationally in average (.307), fifth in doubles (78), third in home runs (52), fourth in slugging (.525) and ninth in scoring (8.4). infielder Kody Hoese has been the catalyst, as he leads the conference hitting .410 with a league best 12 doubles and a nation leading 17 homers. He’s seventh nationally with 43 runs and 11th with 43 RBI. He’s certainly not alone, as six Tulane starters are hitting above .300.

The Green Wave will also be throwing three righties this weekend. Senior Kaleb Roper (4-2, 3.83 ERA) will start Friday, Keagan Gillies (1-1, 7.18 ERA) will start Saturday and Chase Solesky (3-2, 5.12 ERA) will get the ball Sunday.

Nota-Bulls

  • Junior lefty Noah Yager (Davie, Fla.) has tossed 21.2 innings over his last five appearances, surrendering 13 hits and just three runs with 18 strikeouts.
  • Senior Joe Genord (Lake Worth, Fla.) leads USF with nine homers and a .352 average. He’s currently fourth in program history with 40 career home runs.
  • Freshman Alex Bello (Miami) hit his first career homer Wednesday and is batting .375 over the last five games.
  • Sullivan is third in the league with 52 strikeouts.
  • Genord is hitting .308 against Tulane in his career (10 games) with four homers and 10 RBI.
  • Senior Kyle Phillips (Orlando) hit .600 against Tulane last year with a homer, a double and four runs.

Bulls Bits

  • DID YOU KNOW?: USF has the only Division I coaching staff in the state of Florida in which every member was selected in the MLB Draft – head coach Billy Mohl (2006, Philadelphia); assistants Chuck Jeroloman (2004, Boston), Chris Cates (2007, Minnesota), Brian Jeroloman(2006, Toronto). The Bulls' coaching staff has a combined 25 years of playing experience in pro baseball.
  • WELCOME HOME: This will be coach Mohl’s first visit to his alma mater as a head coach.
