I get it, but we’re currently playing the 2019 season, there aren’t a lot of ifs regarding the 2019 class anymore.

The class of 2019 enters school in the fall. This year's class entered school in 2018. The "if" reference is the idea that not all the kids you sign in baseball typically enroll. Work with me here, will ya?  🙂

I gotcha. For some reason I was thinking the season, not the year.

Anybody know why Baron Stuart started tonight?  He can't win the midweek starter role let alone a weekend start...is Mohl trying to throw a little strategy moving our two best arms back a day to try to win a series?  Basically giving up on Fridays?  Very unconventional, but if true I kind of like it

Bulls Drop Opener in War On I-4 Weekend, 4-1

Jake Sullivan had two hits and Dylan Burns tossed 6.0 innings in relief

ORLANDO, FLA., April 5, 2019 – The USF baseball team fell to UCF in the first game of this weekend’s War On I-4 series, 4-1, Friday night.

The Bulls (13-15, 1-6 The American) fell behind on the first pitch of the bottom of the first, as the Knights (19-11, 2-5 The American) took an early lead. UCF scored two more to plate three in the opening inning.

The Knights made it 4-0 with a run in the third. USF had at least one runner on base in three of the next four innings, but couldn’t put together timely hits until a two-out rally in the seventh. Redshirt sophomore Jake Sullivan hit a double to right, then senior Tyler Dietrich (Naples, Fla.) singled to bring him in, making it 4-1.

Nick Gonzalez (Tampa) doubled in the next at-bat, putting two runners in scoring position with two away, but the Bulls stranded a pair. USF had just one base runner over the final two innings.

After an Alex Bello (Miami) RBI and Jordan Santos (Tampa) walk with the bases loaded, Genord stepped into the box for the second time in the inning. He unloaded on a fast ball and drove it over the fence in center for his first career grand slam, blowing the game open to make it 10-3. USF would have 13 at-bats in the frame.

Key Stats

6 – Redshirt junior righty Dylan Burns (Vero Beach, Fla.) tossed six innings out of the bullpen, striking out four and allowing just one run.
