Sullivan attempted to dive under a tag after a high throw to first. The camera angle wasn't good but I thought there was a chance he missed him. Ump thought otherwise. Sullivan was not happy and needed to be restrained.

We let this series get away from about the 6th inning on Saturday. Had them on the ropes and let them back in. A lot of well-placed ground ball hits and flares into no man's land combined with walks. We can't survive if the heart of the order goes cold.

Tip you cap their starter today, he pitched the best game of his career based on his previous numbers and showed good command. We needed to be aggressive early to stay away from CB and never showed that.

Bulls Threaten Late, Fall 4-1 to Bearcats In Series Finale

USF scored in the ninth and sent the tying run to the plate

TAMPA, FLA., MARCH 24, 2019 – The USF baseball team made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth, but dropped the series finale to Cincinnati, 4-1 Sunday afternoon.

The Bulls (12-10, 1-2 The American) were playing catch up for much of the day. The Bearcats (8-14, 2-1 The American) scored runs in four-straight innings to grab a 4-0 lead after the fifth.

Cincinnati’s starter Garrett Schoenle was effective, striking out 12 on the day and pitching into the ninth. USF put something together in the final frame, loading the bases with one out. Senior Chris Chatfield (Riverview, Fla.) pinch hit, and drove in the first run on a ground out to second, scoring Joe Genord (Lake Worth, Fla.).

With two on and two outs, Jake Sullivan (Tampa) stepped into the box represented the tying run. A slow grounder to second was fielded, but there was an errand throw to first forcing the Cincinnati first baseman to make a tag. Sullivan slid head first, but the tag just nicked his back for the final out.

Key Stats

2 – Senior Kyle Phillips (Orlando) had two hits for the fourth-straight game. He hit .444 this week.

Nota-Bulls

·   Redshirt junior righty Dylan Burns (Vero Beach, Fla.) pitched the final 1.2 innings and was perfect.

Up Next

The Bulls head to Stetson Wednesday night before returning home for a three-game series against No. 20 ECU.

It was good to see Burns bounce back today after his last outing.

Not a good omen for our BaseBulls im afraid, to lose the first home series to a less than impressive Bearcat team.

One might say that the preseason question marks weren't as unfounded after all.  Still time to settle in and win some games.   Our pitching staff is looking like Collin Sullivan and pray for rain

injuries have played a role in where we are today that didn't exist in the preseason.

Questions were there, they were being asked by some.  We're missing 3 pitchers with career ERAs over 4.0, one of those over 6.0.  Injuries haven't helped, but questions were there and being asked by those paying attention.

The pitching is thin, but the offense is really the issue. There are lots of holes in that lineup and very little power if Genord isn't hitting bombs. We had six guys hit over .300 last year. Right now, it's just Phillips and Genord.
