Looks like they are going with J Sullivan. JD just had surgery on his finger. Injury bug has hit us hard this season.

Both teams don’t seem to be pleased with the strike zone tonight. Particularly the outside fastball.

Wisely just completed his seventh inning of work with only one run on 84 pitches. Really solid outing and might continue

11 times. The bats are really struggling. That win over UF may end up being the highlight of this season.

Wisely, Timely Hits Helps Bulls Even Series against Liberty
Alec Wisely tossed a career long seven inning  

TAMPA, MARCH 9, 2019 – Senior righty Alec Wisely went seven strong innings and the USF baseball team used timely hits to take a 4-2 win against Liberty Saturday night.  

 

The Bulls (7-5) again scored in the first inning off of the Flames (10-4). Junior Jordan Santos (Tampa) got on base to open the game, then stole second. With two outs, senior Joe Genord (Lake Worth, Fla.) sent a deep fly ball into right-center for an RBI double.

 

The Bulls tacked on another in the third. Santos walked, then two batters later senior Kyle Phillips (Orlando) delivered with a single for his 12th RBI of the year. The Flames finally got on the board in the top of the fourth after loading the bases with one out, making it 2-1.

 

In the bottom half, with a runner at first, redshirt sophomore Jake Sullivan (Tampa) crushed his first career homer to left, making it 4-1.

 

Wisely was sharp from there, retiring nine of the next 10 before being relieved in the eighth. Junior righty Nelson Alvarez (Miami) struck out a pair over the final two frames for his second save of the season.  

 

Key Stats

7 – Wisely matched a career long with seven innings pitched.
12 – Phillips’s team high RBI. 
1 – Sullivan’s first career home run, as he started at third base for the first time. 
14 – Santos has a team high 14 walks. He was 10thnationally entering the weekend in walks per game.

It definitely seemed like the umpires were in a hurry to get the game over.   Definitely erring on the side of getting outs on both sides.  Helped Wisely and us get a W though

Stuart exits after two innings, 2 runs on 5 walks and 2 hits. Yager makes his regular season debut
