According to local radio, ASU Coach Bobby Hurley complaining about only 700 students showing up to yesterday’s game.  It was bad loss for ASU and a bad look for Bobby.

700.

Is he deflecting that embarrassing loss 91-70 to Wazu (Washington State)?

I can't think of anything else going on in Phoenix that would draw the students away but who knows-- big party or something? It was fairly cold last night.

A very old, cramped oca.  Not anything as nice as the YC.

So we should use that against them when we are recruiting the same guys?

Seems like a reasonable observation by Hurley.  ASU's student population is listed at 70K+.  Less than a 1% turnout isn't good.  Sounds like Tempe is the West's answer to Tampa with support.

I had more than that show up to watch games on the courts behind the Sundome back in the day.

1) It's never reasonable to point to poor student attendance as contributing to a loss.

2)  700 is a good number for the limited student seating, just not as good as the number that showed up the Thursday prior for their rivalry game with Arizona.

3)  700, most any place would be highly welcomed.  Even at ASU, who 6-7 years averaged under 50 students.

Any idea what that number was?

Not sure but have a picture....the student section was full.

I've posted about this student section before.  It's tremendous whether at max capacity or not.  Search 942 Crew and see what ASU did to boost student attendance at Basketball games.  Great story.

This is the lower of two sections for the Arizona-Arizona State game.

The 942 Crew name comes from the approx 942 student seats available.  Whether the number was increased for this game, I do not know.

ASU became relevant with Hurley's recruiting.  The crowd on whole is ALWAYS larger (sold out) for Arizona and not near as much for bottom feeding PAC12 teams like Wash State.

Still, a coach can't use that as a reason his team got shellacked by a bottom feeder.  And, 700 is 30 times better than it was before the 942 Crew and a number many schools would love to enjoy as a low point of student attendance.  Someone needs to point Mr. Hurley in the direction of a mirror.  There, he'll find where the issue is.
