Congrats, Philly. You’re going to enjoy trading him and half his contract to the Yankees in 4 years.

Harper just wanted to be able to say he got a 330 contract and didn't care about anything else. Arenado and the Rockies won the off-season. I get the 13 years from the Phillies. It lowers the over AAV so it counts for less against the luxury tax. But 13 years is insane, regardless. He'll get traded at least twice during the length of this contract and have 3 different teams paying him before it's all over, like the old Mike Hampton deal. In all likelihood, you are probably right. But there is that chance that he doesn't waive the no trade clause or they end up with a player in decline getting way over paid and no one will want that deal. They almost have to get him convinced to sell quickly or this will turn bad. Honestly I don't think he was really worth the deal to begin with. He has only had one great offensive season and is a minus defensive player.

Just for funsies: $11,132 - how much he'll make per pitch seen during the length of the contract $44,906 - per plater appearance $191,685 - per game

While players may WANT what guys like A-rod and Pujols got in the past, analytics and other details have caused teams to pay for the player now and not what he will be. Those Pujols and A-ROD deals were so lopsided based on production. Guys like Harper and Machado might get 30 mil/year, but maybe no more than a 4-5 year contract. they are? Sports owners can't seem to be able to control themselves. These salaries, in all sports, makes it so expensive to go to a game anymore.
