Even I don't remember Leon Smith ....

Only 19 games into his USF career, redshirt junior Laquincy Rideau already has drawn comparisons to the best point guards in program history.

Soon, he’ll have a statistical argument to bolster his fledgling case.

Rideau enters Saturday’s game at East Carolina (4 p.m., ESPNU) with 62 steals. With seven more, he breaks the Bulls' 45-year-old single-season record held by Hillsborough High alumnus Leon Smith.

Rest of story

Four more steals against ECU.  Let's see him break the record against Memphis next Saturday!

as a Celtics fan Q reminds me of Marcus Smart. stocky, physical, lockdown D & tons of hustle & intangibles. can do a little bit of everything on the court.

i don't know enough about NBA draft scouting but I can see him playing in the league one way or another. he will def get looks in camp after his senior season.

he's the type of low risk high reward guy that teams don't mind using a 2nd rounder on or a 2-way contract to develop in the G-League.

NBA teams will want him to be an inch or two taller but he looks & plays bigger than his 6'1 listing suggests.

You may be right but I don't think he gets a sniff.

Doesn't he only have 1 more year though?

he's a junior right? he still has his senior year to polish up his game.

he may not get drafted, but he will get camp invites at the very least & probably a shot at the G-League.

from there it's less a matter of sniffing & more a matter of sticking.

his chances improve exponentially the better USF plays, esp. if they make the postseason.

Yes... but it doesn't take 4 years to be an all time great at USF.  Especially if they make some kind of crazy run.  I feel like he's just a leader and facilitator. I can't really think of a point guard we had in recent history that gave us more than 2 solid years.  He's already going to break the single season steals record 2/3 of the way through the season.  I feel like next season he could very well be an elite guard.  He has the talent around him to make that jump.

I see you live in FL but you must be from the Boston area. Where in Mass are you from?
