I get that, and it's not ever going to be a situation where we turn down an NCAA bid.  We could certainty be that 'Cinderella' team, but what I am saying is that I wouldn't feel we were less accomplished (especially vis-a-vis our recent history) if we didn't get a bid and went deep into the NIT tournament.  I should have used "I wouldn't mind" instead of "prefer" in my original post.

7 of the top 80 teams in the country....that's pretty darn impressive. A win over Memphis would be huge!

What about NCAA?  A very quick and naive look at the numbers tells me you probably need to be in the low 50s to get in.  Here's my simple (and again) navie math:

68 teams = 32 automatic + 36 at large.

If 16 automatics don't deserve the bid per the NET ranking, that leaves the top 52 NET ranked teams getting in - IF NET was the ONLY measure for the committee which is not true. 

We've risen in the NET from over 100 to 71 now.  What would it take to get in the low 50's and a possible NCAA bid?  Just dreamin'.
