Beatriz Jordao to Miss Remainder of 2018-19 Season with Injury

BEATRIZ JORDAO TO MISS REMAINDER OF 2018-19 SEASON WITH INJURY

TAMPA, Fla. Jan. 3, 2019 – USF women's basketball freshman center Beatriz Jordao (Pombal, Portugal), a strong presence in the paint and efficient shooter for the Bulls, will miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season due to a leg injury.

Jordao has battled the injury in her left leg since late in November and it previously caused her to miss games against Grambling State (Dec. 15) and Vermont (Dec. 17). The decision to forgo the remainder of the season was made this week when Jordao's injury progressed.

"This has been difficult for Beatriz, who has been a major contributor to our program in her first season and has a very bright future," head coach Jose Fernandez said. "She will take the time she needs to recover and allow the injury to heal and we will support her through this process. Losing Beatriz is another tough blow for our team, but we remain resilient and focused on our goals this season."

The 6-foot-3 center from Portugal averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds through 12 games with the Bulls, and was named The American Freshman of the Week twice this season. She earned the honor once after posting a double-double in her debut in USF's win over Ohio State, and again when she scored a game-high 14 points in 17 minutes in USF's dominating win over George Washington. In her last contest against LSU, Jordao saw just nine minutes of action.

USF has 10 healthy players for the remaining 16 American Athletic Conference games following the loss of Jordao and two-time honorable mention All-American Kitija Laksa. USF announced the addition of Luize Septe on  Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018. The Bulls commence conference play on Saturday afternoon at Temple at 3 p.m.

Let's just move on to the 2019-2020 season. Get the freshmen playing time. Acknowledge that this season is a one off and let's hope the injury bug is exterminated.

Wow, it it weren't for bad luck, the WBB would have no luck at all...I thought this would be the year to take down UCONN.
