Bowls Ranked

Just for funzies and because, again, I am a giant data nerd. 

Using total wins as a proxy for fan interest (WinsT1+WinsT2), current Sagarin scores as a proxy for total team strength (SagScoreT1+SagScoreT2, higher is better), and the absolute value of the difference between the two scores as a proxy for the variation of strength between the two teams (ABS(SagScoreT1-SagScoreT2) lower is better) and then ranking the three measures and then summing the ranks (lower is better) I came up with a somewhat objective emotionless value to rank the bowl games. Interestingly UCF's game should, according to this theoretical model, garner the most interest. 3rd in combined wins, 7th in total team strength and 6th in comparative difference between the teams. The Gasparilla Bowl landed right in the middle, the most interesting is that the combined strength of the two teams is 36th out of the 39 bowls but the difference between the two teams was small enough that it should be a fairly competitive game, and thus, interesting game.

And something else, this is USF's 10th bowl appearance.....10th! Feel old yet? Who was there in Charlotte for the first one? I was, with my brother, that New Years Eve was one of the highlights of my life. Crazy downtown, we crashed the hot shots party, there was a soft core porno being, most likely illegally, filmed in the lobby on the bed that the hotel was shilling, riot police had to be broken out a couple of blocks where we were. My brother and I, inebriated, got chairs and just road the elevator up and down, talking with people who would get on and off the elevator, drinking booze, it was crazy, ended up at some party in the hotel somewhere, god that night was epic.

I was in Charlotte, with the student Bulls club, we had fun but not nearly as much fun as you did.

We have been at every bowl except the one in Canada

What a great night!  God, I remember nights like that.  Truly, I don't know how I survived.  God protects fools and children.  Thank God that was 40 years ago.  Now, it's back to Mother Nature.  Good memories, though.
