At UF I remember many players simply putting in work in the weight room on their own as well. Elite or good players will find a way to get bigger and stronger regardless of who is the S&C coach.

A big part of a strength and conditioning coach’s responsibility is injury prevention. It’s more than just getting bigger, it’s also getting more flexibility in the muscles. In this area our current coach was a failure this year.

There's a reason why elite programs pay their strength coaches more than any of our on the field assistants and it's not because "extra work" is what makes players. If your guy isn't good or keeping up with the ever-changing science in the field you're at a huge disadvantage no matter how much your kids user plans they found on the internet to put in extra work...

Its 70 players. The S&C is not with them the full 24/7. Im not downplaying a S&C staff. I agree with what you and NewEnglandBull said as well. But they cant lift the weights 4 the players. It is eventually up to all 70 of those "individual"players. We put too much on the coaches and staff. These arent a bunch of pitbulls. These are 17-22 year old young adults who make their own decisions. They are the ones who will "decide" to take it to the next level. All S&C programs are only as good as the attitude and determination of the players going thru it. Edited December 7, 2018 by Gatorbull325

Actually they are only as good as the education and credentials of the S&C Coach! Slackers need to get with the program, or be sent packing. If you aren't rowing in the right direction your ass gets tossed overboard...
