I think their whole Disney-like escapade is why ESPN was there.   They have great marketing that turns them into rock stars, no doubt.

Baylor and Auburn don't lament those losses, they got swag and a trip.  No skin off their noses.

Who have they beaten when it mattered, outside of AAC shenanigans?

Whoever has been put in front of them for the last 22 games. I think that saying Baylor or Auburn didn't care about those games is questionable, and an attempt to discredit UCF. Of course, I really don't know what their (Auburn, Baylor) mindsets were heading into those games, but UCF has won NY6 and BCS bowls that we've only been able to dream about. I seriously doubt that anybody here would call it meaningless if we beat Auburn in an NY6 Bowl. We won't have to worry about that though anytime soon though, we'll be playing FIU in the Toilet Bowl this year.

Cincy, if they win tonight, or us if we win on Black Friday. I guess a marquee win is a matter of opinion, but there's no doubt that it would be closer than anything we've had in a LONG time... Considering our place in the College Football landscpae, why wouldn't this be a marquee win?

See UCF and the fact they are not a marquee program thus a win against them cannot be marquee. They are a perennial cellar dwelling G5 program that is on a two year hot streak in 11 game seasons against not so hot talent. We have never even seen a recruiting class for their marshmallow looking coach and not one person that’s ever beaten them had ever bragged to one person about it.

It's meaningless.

Coaches of real programs don't look at meaningless bowl games as meaningful games.

They crafted a great narrative of which many believed.

What did Auburn or Baylor have to gain from taking UCF seriously?  The same could be said for us in their shoes.

Answer:  NOTHING!

It was a holiday, a vacation.

If you're a G5 team, playing against a typical G5 schedule, UCF would be a GREAT win right now, because of that hot streak you mentioned, and yes...for us, or Cincy, or Temple  or the like to beat them would be something to brag about for that fan base. That may not be the case every year, but it is this year IMO.

Just out of curiosity....where do you think they should be ranked?

Well, I can't go too far with this argument, being that I wasn't an athlete at that level, and haven't personally been in the locker room of a team competing in an NY6 bowl. I would think that the Seniors would want to go out with a win for sure....and because I don't know for sure that it's meaningless to Auburn/Baylor, I'm willing to give C. credit for their accomplishments. Hopefully we can do the same before too long.

I'm not for firing Strong. Who do we get instead?

Gilbert and Williams need to go. Offense and WR's are glaring sores.

Bottom line: they are getting the job done and we are foundering.  They are relevant and we are an afterthought.  The people in charge at USF hopefully are taking note and will hopefully take steps to get us turned around, if we have any sort of desire for relevance.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
