What if we just ran a spread-based offense?

We were a lot closer with that style of offense than we’ve ever been with this.

We were?  When?

We ran a different offense last year? The closest we’ve ever been to a conference title.

2015 and 2016. The same can be said for last season but once Taggart switched to a system that fit his athletes better we consistently were in the race. This season we went backwards and are essentially out with 3 games left. You could argue that last season we were in it until the C game which is true, but now we’re playing for a chance at a bowl game in Tampa.

I’m meaning it in terms of consistency. Even after a Temple loss in 2016 we were still in the race. We’ve regressed a lot this season under the same style of offense. I heard so much talk of “Gilbert just needs his guy that can throw short passes” yet we’re going backwards. It seemed like there was much more hope of a confence title being in sight than there is now.

Iirc last year there were rumblings about FLowers not being happy with the new offense.

If I recall, those people were putting their own criticism into players’ mouths just to sound credible.

The one and only reason last years offense was effective at all is because of Flowers.

The spread has been sporadic at USF because it takes a full compliment of quality players to work and we have rarely had that. One year we are great at QB and WR but the lines suck. One year we have a great line but a terrible WB.  And of course you still need a great coach to orchestrate it all and we’ve never had that.

The way Gilbert runs it even the the least knowledgeable DC can contain the offense.

Fritz, in the pregame, said they felt they knew what USF was going to try to do.  He was right.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.
