There has been a Go Fund Me account set up to assist current USF OL Christion Gainer's family in their efforts to rebuild their lives following Hurricane Michael. Here is a link to the page for those interested in helping his family. https://www.gofundme.com/Gainer-Family-Hurricane-Michael-Relief?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&utm_content=cta_button&utm_campaign=upd_n

As a side note, in looking at the Go Fund Me page, I found this interesting little tidbit, publicly identifying himself as the USF Wizard....

If we gave to this would it not be an NCAA violation? Has this gone thru the compliance office?

It states on the page that it has been cleared by the NCAA and that any money raised above and beyond the family's documented need will go to a non-profit charity to assist others impacted by the hurricane.

"*This GoFundMe was created after consultation with the NCAA and USF Athletics Compliance Department. This fundraiser meets all requirements outlined in NCAA bylaw 16.11.1.7-g.*"

Thank G-d!! Sometimes the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I’m glad this won’t be one of those times.

Similar GoFundMe's have been established following Hurricane Michael, with Janarius Robinson's from FSU raising over $107,000 in just a week's time.

That’s the reason I’m surprised the NCAA allows for this. USF would never be able to raise the money that FSU would so it becomes clear to a recruit come to FSU and if anything happens to you at all more money will be raised for you than you will ever need go to USF and if anything happens we may raise enough to pay your families bills for a month.

That is why the family has to show a documented need. The money can only be used to cover the things not covered by insurance, FEMA, and other forms of aid.

Here is the text for the referenced Bylaw:

NCAA Bylaw 16.11.1.7 states that an institution may provide or arrange for the following benefits for a student-athlete: [R] (Adopted: 4/26/01, 4/24/03 effective 8/1/03, 4/13/09, 4/26/12, 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13, 8/7/14)

(a) The use of a return ticket at any time after the conclusion of a foreign tour;

(b) Receipt of frequent flier points and/or miles earned while traveling to and from intercollegiate practice and/or competition;

(c) Participation in receptions and festivities associated with championships, conference tournaments or all-star events hosted by and conducted on the institution’s campus;

(d) Occasional meals to team members provided by a student-athlete’s family member at any location;

(e) Telephone calls in emergency situations as approved by the director of athletics (or his or her designee);

(f) Reasonable tokens of support and transportation, housing and meal expenses in the event of injury, illness, or death of a family member or another student-athlete;

(g) Fundraisers for student-athletes (or their family members) under the following extreme circumstances:

(1) Extreme circumstances should be extraordinary in the result of events beyond the student-athlete’s control (e.g., life-threatening illness, natural disaster);

(2) The proceeds must be designated for a specific purpose (e.g., payment of medical bills, purchase of medical equipment, replacement of items lost in a fire, etc.)

(3) The proceeds may be given directly to the beneficiaries, with receipt kept on file by the institution, which must include the amount of expenses incurred and the total amount received; and

(4) The excess proceeds must be given to a not-for-profit organization with the receipt kept on file by the institution.

(h) The payment of admission costs or a meal for any student-athlete being honored at a nonathletics awards ceremony.

It’s just an interesting market differentiator for the money schools and the NCAA tries to avoid those for student athletes, at FSU you can get over $107k at USF not so much.
