How do they have us 12 spots behind a 1-3 Georgia Tech team that we beat by quite a few?

Probably our lackluster performance against Illinois and ECU. Also, i'm sure SOS plays a role.

There only win is against Alcorn State, who cares who they have lost to if they have no quality wins. One of those quality losses they have racked up is against us. And there sos isn’t that amazing in comparison to ours when you consider they are 12 spots ahead and have one win to our four.

Their remaining SOS is over 20 spots ahead of ours and they get some credit for playing the team that is number 5 on the list. It’s not really all that far fetched.

It's not really about the past, it's a bout the future .... fwiw.

ESPN Football Power Index - 2018

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

So it’s like Minority Report.

We beat them by 11, have not lost to anyone and they have beaten one not good team, it’s far fetched.

Seems perfectly reasonable to rank people  today for the performance you expect they maybe capable of in the future, even if it flies in the face of what they have accomplished in the past.

These polls get more ridiculous by the year.  I'm still trying to figure out how Wisconsin is ranked in the top 15, 5 spots ahead of BYU who beat them on their home turf just a week ago?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
