Hopefully he can keep up the good work. Having Stevie there to advise will certainly help, but it still hard to not feel like the air got let out our balloon.

Nah. If SY is in the building, it's not like anything the GM does is going to escape him.

I’m sure SY will help but the GM would have the final say on things and I’m not sure this guy wants to just be a patsy.

As a Cub fan who has Theo Epstein out of the GM role and into a higher office, I know Theo has his hands on everything no matter who the GM is. Patsy or not, the GM isn't going rogue. It's a group effort.

Well Epstein is the president of baseball operations and as such, hired Hoyer. So Epstein is the boss, not an advisor. Also, no disrespect to SY, but he isn’t on the same level as Epstein. It’s a group effort for sure, but someone has to have the final call and won’t by SY as an advisor. He wouldn’t be stepping aside if was going to be around enough to be that person.

My understanding is SY will be working from home as an advisor.  He is "advising" for his last year of his current deal.  He turned down an extension this summer according to the morning guys on 620.  Wouldn't be surprised if he is the GM in Detroit in a year if not somewhere else (they were mentioning Seattle) and this is just carrying out his contract.

Paper today said his wife never moved here, staying in Detroit, so he split time. Surprised that lasted 8 years. If he goes back to the NHL it will be in Detroit.

His marriage is toast if she willingly stayed in Detroit.

I think with a guy like Steve there are two options:

  1. The Red Wings busted out the knee pads
  2. He has a heart/medical condition and will be dead by the end of the year

Either way he wont be in Tampa at the start of the next season.
