That was a break for us.. defense was being left out on the field so long... and virtually no chance the defense stops them from there.

hmmm looked like a good call too me

intentional? always hard to prove state of mind

the intent of the rule is about safety  so flag must be thrown

In terms of intention, it reminded me of the ejection of Auggie at FSU in 2015

Heard them comment on the broadcast rules have tweaked and intent is irrelevant it is all about player safety. Bum break on the call for GT but it is what the game is today.  Hopefully it really does help in terms of safety for the sport.

On the first targeting call, gt player did not, to me, appear to have "launched" or whatever else, but was making contact that would lead to targeting.

It used to be that would still get the penalty, but not necessarily get the ejection.  Announcers were talking about tweaks to the rule, but thought they mentioned this is the first year without any tweaks to targeting.

No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul.
