Positional Breakdown - Quarterback

QUARTERBACKS (6):

Starter - Blake Barnett - JR

Second String - Chris Oladokun - SO OR Brett Kean - JR

Reserves - Octavious Battle - FR, Jordan McCloud - FR, Kyle Trina - RS FR

Outlook: The battle at QB concluded with Blake Barnett being named the starter. It will be interesting to see how USF performs with their first true "Blue Chip" QB at the helm. Keep in mind, he left Arizona State because of a coaching change that resulted in the QB competition being closed before the season began. He has the tools, now can he put it all together? The next question is will Brett Kean or Chris Oladokun be the primary backup and how much playing time will each QB see in the opener against Elon on Saturday? Oladokun will bring an elusiveness that could hide deficiencies in the offensive line, while Kean is probably more of the traditional style QB that Gilbert presumably prefers. With any luck, the backup position will be a moot issue and BB will make the transition into the post QF era not sting as much.

As for the future, USF has two promising freshman in Battle and McCloud. Given the current depth chart, they will hopefully both be able to redshirt and will be in the mix from 2020 to 2022.

I feel great about Barnett, expecting a record passing yards season with the tools and weapons.

From the Spring Game, I feel great about our #2 & #3 ... hoping each can play at least 3 series each in the 2nd half.
