What's in the plan for the first tailgate of 2018?

You know I am jealous.

I am having some converted Bulls fans over Saturday.  We tailgate, basically, in the living room.    

Our menu is coming together with some jalapeno poppers,  7 layer dip, smoked brisket and beer.  We'll have three TVs fired up, except for when the Bulls game is on - it will be the only game showing on the 70" unit.  

Tell us what you have planned.  Not just food, we know some of you have been working on your set up.  I'm curious what the 2018 tailgating crowd has in store for  USF/Elon.

It is a ritual that has been going on for over twenty years now. I get to one or two games a year for the others at home I try to recreate an “at game” presence as much as I can (assuming a 7:00pm kick off):

Friday morning before the game: USF Flag is hung up on the front door flag holder. If we win it stays up until Sunday night. If we lose it comes down after the game.

11:00-4:00- watch CFB...usually just teams in our conference but will glance at others. This usually means I will have three to four games on simultaneously (through PC and tv) but will pick one out to focus on.

4:00-5:00: set up outdoor table on patio with USF plates, mugs, coasters, and napkins (I buy a stock every few years). I also bring out my game used USF football (2010 vs Cuse) and CJL signed mini helmet (the original) and use it as the centerpiece. My son and I used to throw a football around but he is gone to college now.

5:00-6:30- while preparing the grill for the food/eating (which will include anything from sausage dogs to lobster) I put the pregame on and listen to Jim (gonna miss Mark) and the others. 

7:00- in front of the tv. I have my laptop nearby watching and contributing to the comments from all of my USF friends on TBP.

10:00- after a win I have a special USF glass I bought the day I graduated in 1986. I poor a beer and salute my alma mater if we win. If we lose I will write some stupid comments on TBP and then go to bed. 

Yes, I have issues but I would not have it anyother way! As always Go Bulls and let’s get this season started!!!

Around 10:00 start smoking some bacon wrapped hotdogs, brats, and hot Italian sausage.

Meet the rest of our tailgate crew at Hooters at 3:00

By 3:30 we're setup and I've popped the top on a 7thSun Headbanger IPA.

You'll be 1/2 hour late for kick off if you are planning on 6:30.

We hadn't added anything new to our setup over the past few years since the generator.  But are retiring our old USF canopy and replacing with the new one.  Don't think I'll go through the effort to bring the new USF bar at least not until the weather cools down.  Also have a new USF table that looks to be a size made for flip cup or beer pong although we don't use it for that. 

We usually meet up at 3 hours and 15 minutes before kickoff and then follow each other into the lot so that we can park next to each other.  Looks like Elon is in NC so will do BBQ.  Our daughter and son-in-law are doing pulled pork.  Have to decide on sides for the other couples to bring and my wife and I will be bringing some appys, jalapeno corn bread and, hopefully, a bourbon pecan pie. The size of our tailgates is smaller since the Bench's left. They always had at least 4 there and sometimes more. Another 2 couples have moved away so down to about 8 - 10 range most games.

Friday night gonna throw a 10-11 lb Boston Butt on the Green Egg and catch whatever CFB game is on the tube.  The rest of my crew is in charge of sides.  Show up to lot at 2:30-3pm, set up tailgate and begin pregame beer consumption...probably Stellas.

Forgot about the liquor part of the tailgate.  Used to do green and gold (yellow) jello shots with tequila in the lime and vodka in the lemon. Got lazy the past 2 years and now go with Fireball toasts.  The winning record is much better with the Fireball so can't change that.

Another good reason to be tailgating three to four hours early. Just in case.
