He should sign and get his pro career started, but our pitching staff is better next year with him on it.  There is absolutely no question about that.

Our staff s light years better with him on it. So if he decides he wants to come back and iron out those control issues and pitch into the 7th inning a few times for some scouts to see and make another million bucks, I'm all for it.

So he is coming back? What is the deadline for that to happen?????

Apologies, its July 6th. We should know something soon

SIGNING DEADLINE: Teams must sign drafted players, other than those who were college seniors, by July 6. Players who have exhausted their college eligibility have until one week before 2019 draft to sign.

Draft deadline

The Rays, and all other teams, face a 5 p.m. Friday deadline to sign their picks from last month's draft. Of most interest of the Rays 10 remaining unsigned picks is No. 31 overall LHP Shane McClanahan. The USF redshirt sophomore is looking for a bonus of $3 million based on an email sent to teams during the first round; his slot value is $2.22 million so there is some middle ground, with talks expected to continue up to the deadline. Word from McClanahan's side mid-day Thursday was they were "waiting and seeing" what happens next.

I bet both sides find a way with a few minutes to spare.

Wow...very surprised this is not moving forward. Does anyone know how he would be used by USF next year? Does he have to come back to USF? I wonder if he was dissatisfied with his development last year as a USF pitcher.

So if he doesn’t sign with the Rays, they retain rights to him until 2019 draft, correct?  Meaning he can’t sign any other professional contract, except maybe in Japan or Mexico.  He’ll sign.
