I have wondered if his exit deal with ESPN prevented him from being hired in the industry for X time, and he is reporting on his own, just to keep relevant so when the clock expires on his ESPN buyout he is ready to find work.

That’s a good point and makes sense.

By the way, for those who don't know.

Michael Kelly was the person Lee Roy Selmon hired to replace himself when LRS got promoted to AD.

But it doesn't have to be the long standing people. He could certainly building new relationships.

It could also be with a very big donor, who gets news before the public. You just never know.

Good point on both.

Wait, hold up. The real question is what are Mr.Kelly's thoughts on an OCS?

Kelly “we are looking into it”...or something to that effect.

Out of all the things I've read about this guy in the last half hour or so, this might be the single piece of information that sold me on him most.  If there is one person you can trust when it comes to USF its LRS!  Miss that guy.

Yes on paper since he has no real AD experience. Hope this guy turns out to be a mover and shaker and not just a schedule good games AD.

I love how often “on paper” is used. Its always on paper. Signing Nick Saban to replace CCS would be a good hire on paper, since he’s currently not doing the job at USF.

As much as I despise him for his involvement/handling of the Leavitt situation, he busts his ass to cultivate sources. It takes a lot of work for  journalist to do so. When I gripe about Joey Knight being a glorified Google News Alert this is what I am talking about. If he dedicated himself to the job he would have some excellent inside sources by now and be able to provide the scoop. That would require showing up to the campus more than once every couple of weeks.

Yup. The USF beat writer just got scooped by someone without a job. It wasn’t the first time and won’t be the last.

Except that there is a track record to go off of with Nick Saban. You know what you are getting in a head coach. How he fits into the system/community/dynamic at a given University would remain to be seen. Kelly has no real track record to go off of.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
