+1 except I'm not sure its really a rebuild as much as a restock. We have guys coming in that can take the place of players we lose.  Shoes can and do get filled. Im guessing that Villar goes but Im not sold on Genord being snapped up or actually anyone else. Levi Borders was a solid Catcher who hit near .300 with 45 RBIs and 9 HRs his Jr yr and did not get drafted. Now there may be intangible where it was a known thing that Levi was not going to sign and would come back his Sr. year but without that being a fact we have to assume that the bar is higher than that to be drafted.

Definitely gone now are Shane, Pete and Duke. Possibles are still Perez, Villar and Genord.  We obviously also need to keep an eye on our committed HS players as well.

Restock, retool maybe.  A lot depends on if anyone steps up to really fill the Fri/Sat starter slots.  I don't see anyone that automatically fills the role, but there were some good things from Sullivan, Yager, Wisely, etc. late to give us hope.  Hitting will slip some with the loss of Stunkel and probable loss of Villar and Genord.  If anyone else like Chat or Montes go pro, then you're looking at a major line up overhaul as well.

Duke is a Sr right?

Completely forgot. That would be a pretty good reason to be sure he's gone.

Jeez and if we are thinking we might have replacement issues, oh boy Wichita St. Their two guys who were drafted Bohm and Jenista hit a combined .356 with 16 runs, 12 RBIs, 2 doubles, a triple and 4 home runs against Bulls pitching in 5 games this year. They did this in a combined 45 ab.....Thank god they are gone.

For those thinking AP won't get drafted, he was taken in the 8th round.  And there is no Chatsworth (except in CA).   It is Chatfield

It's going to be interesting to see what Perez's bonus is. He was no where to be found on the prospect lists going 300 deep. If he gets the full bonus slotted for his pick, it means they thought he was definitely that good. If it's considerably lower, the Sox might have talked to him beforehand and asked if he'd go that early for a discounted rate to offset their bonus pool. I think his pick is slotted for nearly $180k. If he signs for $80k, they took his money to give to someone else they needed to convince to sign.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
