If this is true (still just a strong rumor). Here are my thoughts:

1. Good luck to him, wish him the best. Utah is a step up, so a congratulations are in order.

2. I hate to see people sign a contract then leave right away, but I get that people have to do what is best for themselves.

3. In the short term, there are lots of good people in Athletics that will keep the department moving forward. No panic about the time until another AD is hired. (and there may be some internal candidates there too who would do an excellent job)

4. In addition to the great internal candidates (Barry Clemens is on top of that list) are former Athletics employees who would be good fits too like Scott Glaser (currently #2 at USF Alumni Association) and Rob Higgins.

5. This job will draw interest for a talented pool of candidates. USF isn't the best job in the country, but it is still a very good job.

I feel bad, I do really know Barry Clements name, just typed too quick.

Harlan was good but I think you guys can do better. And really the schools at the top of the G5 really NEED better to survive. He made good hires, seems to have gotten some good fundraising, but still could've done more marketing wise to raise your profile. I know most of you in here hate the UCF way but your social media needs more oomph. This should be an attractive opening for rising star ADs.

He's only been here 4 years.   Our baseball team is much more nationally recognized now, and I think both of the coaching hires at football/basketball are credible.  Where are we at fundraising wise?

I'm not losing any sleep, but the problem is this continues to perpetuate the image that we are a stepping stone athletics program.  Come to USF, build your resume, go to greener pastures.  USF starts over again.

Baseball is on the uptick, no doubt, and him hiring Kingston was a heck of a great job. I think baskateball still has more to prove. I don’t know exactly what’s been done with fundraising, but I do know that there’s been a lot of talk, I don’t know how much more than just that. I also believe Charlie Strong has some to do with the hype of an IPF.

Kingston was a great hire no doubt but the jury is still out on his replacement. Basketball will also have to wait due to a terrible first hire. We can do much better than Harlan. Higgins would be an excellent place to start.

I knew he was weak when I met him in San Jose. He just seemed happy to be here.

I would add Andrew Goodrich and Scott Kull to that list.  I asked Scott when he was here when he'd become our AD?  He seemed kind of shocked that I asked but I am hopeful we hire from within for continuity.  Barry has been here forever and is well deserving. Great guy and a bourbon lover.
